Apple is looking for a world-class Panel Process and Optics Coating Engineer with experience in thin-film processes and material science to join its PPO Engineering team.
Optics Coating & Material Engineers must have a strong technical background in a relevant technical field, such as display, semiconductor, or optics. A successful candidate will work within a cross-functional team to realize next-generation display and optical applications. This position demands broad technical skills, excellent communication and organizational skills.
You will lead engineering investigations, equipment, and process development for new concepts and advanced technology in optical applications.
In addition, you will work with process specialists and vendors to design and execute experiments using thin film equipment such as PVD, CVD, Wet Coating, etc.
Optimize and improve existing thin film processes and materials for better performance, reliability, and cost reduction. He/She needs to facilitate the scale-up of process technology to mass production.
- MS in Material Science and Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience
- Technical expertise in optical coatings including both dry and wet coatings, surface and interfacial science, materials chemistry, and inorganic-organic hybrid materials, or related
- Knowledge of optical and material characterization, formulation development of aqueous/non aqueous coatings, formulation characterization methods and corresponding wet deposition techniques
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally up to 15%
- MS or above in Material Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Optics, Engineering Physics, Physics or equivalent
- Hands-on experience and consistent track record in relevant areas in optical coatings and films including vacuum deposition coatings, wet coatings, polymer films, and optical materials, etc.
- Expertise in sophisticated process technology development, and associated equipments & process enablement including semiconductor manufacturing, Roll to Roll manufacturing processes, etc.
- Experience in design of experiments and corresponding statistical data analysis
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex material and interface challenges in a manufacturing setting
- Demonstrated knowledge of optical coatings design and its implementation into production processes including corresponding design rules
- Knowledge of thin film deposition and corresponding metrology methods (ex. PVD, CVD, ALD, wet coatings/processing, XPS, SEM, TEM, AFM, and XRD, etc.)
- Understanding of optical coating's design, finite element analysis (FEA), light-matter interactions and corresponding basics
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills in English
- Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate a multi-functional team
- Experience leading domestic and international vendors
- 3+ years of professional work experience in a related field
