We are looking for a world-class optical design and analysis engineer with expertise in both imaging (VR, AR, camera) and illumination (stray light, polarisation analysis) fields. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in advancing our optical design capabilities, contributing to the development of new optical devices in various application fields. This position requires close collaboration with other experts at Apple, and is focused on working directly with optics manufacturers and process experts to validate high precision lens designs new to industry.

Description

Optical design & analysis expertise: Demonstrate a track record of optical designs in fields such as VR, AR, camera optics, or other fields requiring high-end-performance imaging lenses. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of optical concepts, terms and design/ analysis methodology. Demonstrate proficiency with software for optical design and modelling. Experience in polarisation and the non-imaging (illumination) branch of optics is also welcome, particularly in the analysis of stray-light/ghost image. Optics manufacturing Experience: • DFM: Support the design and development of large lenses, considering optical requirements, structural integrity, and manufacturability. • Mass production of lenses: Demonstrate knowledge of various optical- grade materials and high-precision mass production optics manufacturing technologies.Collaborate with optics vendors to evaluate and select appropriate manufacturing and process technologies for mass production and prototyping. • Metrology: Demonstrate knowledge of lens characterisation equipment and metrology data interpretation. Support robust quality control measures to ensure the production of lenses meets stringent specifications Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with multi-functional teams, including other optical designers, materials scientists, and manufacturing specialists, to achieve project objectives. Communicate effectively with team members, providing technical expertise and updates on project milestones.
